This episode is rich of discussions, but may be too subtle in first viewing. It asks questions about love, commodification and how ‘rebellion’ against capitalism can be consumed by capitalism itself (yes, we’re looking at you, those who sold Marx’s shirt).
‘National Anthem’ is a perfect first episode for Black Mirror. Rather than directly engaging to a technology dystopia that happens in the distant future, we are brought to contemporary context, something that can happen here and now. It explore enough issues, ranging from morality of bestiality, public opinion in social media even to Carlton’s motive.
